The Bluefish is the only species in the Pomatomidae family. This prolific and exciting game-fish can be found all over the world and is known by a variety of monikers. Other common names are Blue, Chopper, Anchoa, Shad (East Coast Africa) and Elf (West Coast Africa).
The bluefish is known by its grayish blue slightly green colorings with white on the sides and underside of the fish. The Bluefish has exceptionally sharp teeth and is quite strong for its size. Bluefish can weigh up to and over forty pounds, although, encountering a bluefish this size is quite rare unless you happen to be on a North Shore Charter with skilled Captain Scott McDowell.
The Bluefish begin to show up in large numbers in early June. If you looking to experience the exhilaration of landing a hard fighting blue fish its time to call capt. Scott McDowell and book a Menemsha Fishing Charter on the “Lauren C”!
